I have recently been making my way through a collection of short stories by the late crime novelist Patricia Highsmith (she of Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley fame). Though I had read the first novel in her Ripley series, I was still fairly unfamiliar with her work. After reading some of the stories in Nothing That Meets the Eye, I may have to seriously think about reading more of her writing. Some of these stories are really good.
You'll find a link here to an old NY Times piece that will tell you a bit more about the collection.
